Lima Wins Round 1 in Aggieland, Carrying Lead into Championship Saturday

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) first-ever visit to Aggieland and Reed Arena in College Station, Texas, the power of The 12th Man was behind Leonardo Lima (Vale do Paraiso, Brazil) as he rode to the Round 1 win of the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s 2021 Aggieland Classic.
Lima mounted Blessed (Nothin’ But Try Ranch/’Digger Bucking Bulls) in front of a raucous Aggie crowd, then blew out of the chutes, matching the bovine leap for leap. The duo earned a score of 88.5 points.
The ride held on through the night, besting the other 44-men and their 10 qualified rides for the win, awarding Lima seven world points. He now stands at No. 46 in the world standings, moving up eight spots.
Brazilian-turned-American Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) was second on the night after he conquered Slobber Knocker (Slingin’ BB’s) for 88 points in the opening round.
With his eye on the first Aggieland Classic champion buckle, Souza earned four world points and is within striking distance heading into championship Saturday.
Arkansas cowboy Cole Skender (Hamburg, Arkansas) rode his way into third on the night. Taking care of business on Fu Man Chu (Sho-Me Rodeo/Rafter J), the 21-year-old made the 8-second whistle for a score of 87 points.
Skender earned three world points and only trails the event leader Lima by 1.5 points heading into Saturday.
Another Brazilian, Paulo Ferreira Lima (Bezerros, Brazil), split fourth place in Round 1 with Canadian Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta, Canada). While Lima reached the whistle on Slim Shady (Slingin’ BB’s), Biever bested Mic Drop (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) early in the round, both to the tune of 86 points.
The 2021 Aggieland Classic is also a stop on the Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge season. Sho-Me Rodeo/Rafter J took home first place in Round 1, scoring 277.68 points over three outs. JQH Bucking Bulls #1 was second with 274.24 points, and Slingin’ BB’s third, turning in 271.79 points.
Along with the 11 qualified rides from Round 1, the Top 19 riders in buckoff time will advance to fill Saturday’s 30-man Round 2.
