Melancon’s Night One 90 Earns Round 1 Win at Denver Chute Out

By: Easton Colvin

DENVER – A new batch of riders took to the dirt on the second night of Round 1 action at the 2020 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) Denver Chute Out at the National Western Stock Show. After covering only 11 bovine athletes on night one of action, the bulls stole the show again on night two, with three out of every four outs resulting in a buckoff.

Cole Melancon (Paris, Texas) erupted for 90 points on Let’s Gamble (Flying S/Samford) in section one on night one, and never looked back. The ride was good enough to hold on through night two of action, earning Melancon the round win.

The efforts earned the 2018 PBR Global Cup Edmonton competitor seven world points towards the race for the 2020 PBR World Finals and $3,041.30. The Texas cowboy is now sitting at No. 51 in the world standings.

Fellow Texan Boudreaux Campbell’s (Crockett, Texas) 88.5-point effort on Redman on night one also stood the test, as the two-time Wrangler NFR qualifier earned second place in Round 1.

Campbell’s four points moved him up to the No. 37 spot in the world rankings, on the cusp of the elite Unleash The Beast (UTB) tour cutline.

The Round 1 win also earned Campbell $2,280.98.

PBR regular Taylor Toves (Stephenville, Texas) stole the show on night two with an 88-point besting of Shakin (Owens/Wyatt/Smith) in section one.

The ride earned Toves third place in Round 1, and the Lucas Oil Ride of the Night.

With the third-place finish in the round, adding $1,520.65 and three world points to his season, Toves moved to No. 38 in the world standings.

Thrilling the National Western Stock Show crowd with his skill, Colten Jesse (Konawa, Oklahoma) rocketed up the leaderboard on night two after matching Bullseye (Ownes/Wyatt/Smith) move for move.

The perfect union earned the Oklahoma man 87.5 points, good enough for fourth place in Round 1, taking home $760.33 and two world points.

Jesse is now the sole owner of the No. 13 position in the PBR world standings.

Mexican Santiago Castellanos (Dixon, Mexico) used an 86.5-point ride aboard Attaboy (TNT Rodeo Company) from night one of action to lock up a fifth place finish in Round 1. Castellanos also earned his first world point of 2020 for his finish.

Fans can experience every out from Round 1 of the 2020 Denver Chute Out at National Western Stock Show on Wednesday, January 15 at 8 a.m. ET via RidePass.com or the RidePass mobile app.

The Denver Chute Out continues with Round 2 and the championship round tomorrow, January 15 at 7 p.m. MT.
