PBR Pick ‘Em Morning Line – New York Round 1

By: Slade Long

The PBR Monster Energy Buck Off at the Garden gets underway Friday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on RidePass on Pluto TV.

Chase Outlaw on 403 Crazy Doc:

Outlaw returned to action in Indianapolis with an 89-point score in the first round. Before bucking off Yellow Feather in the championship round go. He looked pretty sharp for a guy who has been mostly sidelined for two whole seasons. Outlaw should dominate this bull. Crazy Doc is 3-5 against lefties, and is as nice a draw as you will find at this level.

Jess Lockwood on 50F Casper:

Lockwood was shut out in Indianapolis last week, but he may get his season started here. Mason Taylor was 90.75 points on this bull to win the opening round last week en route to winning the event. This is a young bull without much experience, and Lockwood should be able to handle him.

Cooper Davis on 688 American Gangster:

Davis has made the most of his photo ops since he’s been in New York, and he may end up being the highlight of the opening round. American Gangster is plenty difficult – almost a championship-round caliber bull – but he likes to go to the right, and right-handed riders have had some success against him. Davis hasn’t been on him before, but he’s probably wanted to. This is a veteran bull most of the riders have seen a lot.

Eli Vastbinder on 727 Joker:

This bull is an east coast native, currently residing in Florida. He’s been to the Global Cup twice in Arlington, TX, and that is the farthest west he’s ever traveled. He’s been ridden five times in 21 outs, all of those by right-handed guys. He’s 6-5 overall against righties, and Vastbinder should have a great chance at a qualified ride here.

Dener Barbosa on 92T Buckin’ for Cash:

Boudreaux Campbell was 90.75 points on this bull at the 2020 World Finals, and early in the 2021 season several guys had success against him. But, since February of last year he is unridden. He did not go to the World Finals in 2021. From what we’ve seen of him he should fit a left handed-rider pretty well, and Barbosa is capable of riding anything that goes to the left.

Boudreaux Campbell on 671 White Dust:

This is another east coast bull, and a very rideable one. He is probably going to go to the right, and Campbell is much stronger on bulls that go left – into his hand. But, most guys at this level should get along with this bull regardless of direction.

Claudio Montanha on 627 Midnight Flyer:

Montanha did not do well for a long stretch last season, but around October he heated up and has been riding well since. This bull originally came from Canada, and at the UTB level, he’s a good bull to have. He can go either way, but he is honest and gives riders a chance. He’s been ridden in about half his outs, and he will probably get ridden here.

Cole Melancon on 519 Hell on the Red:

Outlaw was 89 points on this bull last week away from his hand. He will be into Melancon’s hand if he has the same trip here. Melancon had a terrible season in 2021 – a career worst. However, most riders go through rough patches and rebound back to their normal level. Melancon is likely to bounce back, and he hinted at that last week – going 88.5 for 5th place in the opening round in Indianapolis.
