Austin Gamblers’ Lucas Divino Wins Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Event in Cedar Park, Texas

By: Kacie Albert

CEDAR PARK, Texas – Following an intense two days of competition in Cedar Park, Texas, Lucas Divino (Nova Crixas, Brazil) emerged as the supreme competitor, winning the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s PBR Cedar Park inside H-E-B Center as the lone rider to go a perfect 3-for-3.

Divino, who rides for the hometown Austin Gamblers in the separate PBR Teams league, first put points on the board in Round 1 when he rode Guess Eyes Right (Rocking F Bucking Bulls LLC) for 73 points.

The charismatic Brazilian then delivered his second qualified ride in as many attempts when he topped Red Bull (Sho-Me Rodeo) for 84.5 points.

Divino then cemented the victory on Championship Saturday, winning the championship round with an 86-point ride aboard Little Bit (Mason Bucking Bulls).

Courtesy of the golden finish, Divino garnered a crucial 116.5 Velocity Global points in the race for the 2024 PBR Velocity Tour Championship.

Second was Ederson Santos (Ilha Solteira, Brazil), garnering 84.5 Velocity Global points.

Santos began PBR Cedar Park with back-to-back runner-up efforts in Round 1 and Round 2, riding Pac Man (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 86.5 points and El Chapo (Mason Bucking Bulls) for 87 points, respectively.

The Brazilian, however, came up short of the victory in the championship round when he was upended by Sugar (Campbell Cattle Co./Cannon Cattle Co.) in 2.38 seconds.

Going 2-for-3, the Carolina Cowboys’ Dawson Branton (Jefferson, Oregon) was third.

Branton delivered an 85.5-point effort aboard Major Nelson (Sellers/Hurst) in Round 1 and an 86.5-point trip atop Vigilante (Halpain Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 to garner 66.5 Velocity Global points.

Ednei Caminhas (Indaiatuba, Brazil) rebounded from a Round 1 buckoff in triumphant form on Championship Saturday to finish fourth.

Despite being tossed by Smooth Rumbull (Shuler Bucking Bulls) in a quick 2.02 seconds in Round 1, the 2002 PBR World Champion returned with newfound confidence in Round 2.

After winning the second round with an 87.5-point ride on Hard Rock (Sellers/Hurst), Caminhas punctuated his performance in the Lone Star State with an 83.5-point ride on Howdy (Sho-Me Rodeo).

Caminhas left H-E-B Center with 67 Velocity Global points.

Rounding out the Top 5 and tying for fifth was a duo of Nashville Stampede riders in Mason Taylor (Maypearl, Texas) and Bruno Carvalho (Alvares Florence, Brazil).

Taylor rode Redline (Barrett/D4) for 86.5 points and Hammered Again (Campbell Cattle Co./Cannon Cattle Co.) for 84 points to earn 40 Velocity Global points.

Carvalho conquered Party Mode (JQH Bucking Bulls – Skip & Elaine Jones) for 85 points in Round 1 before topping Rollo (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 85.5 points in Round 2, to net 32 Velocity Global points.

In the bull pen, Shameless (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co.), Bandit (3J Ranch/EVP Bucking Bulls) and Sweet John (Campbell Cattle Co./Cannon Cattle Co.) bucked supreme, tying for the Bull of the Event honor after delivering matching 44-point outs.

Shameless tossed Weston Hartman (Mandan, North Dakota) in 2.22 seconds in Round 1, while Bandit upended the Florida Freedom’s Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil) in 2 seconds in Round 2, and Sweet John bested Branton in 4.85 seconds in the championship round.

The PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour next travels to Youngstown, Ohio, on Feb. 16-17 and Memphis, Tennessee, on Feb. 17.
