California Rodeo Salinas Announces 2019 Scholarship Recipients

Four outstanding students to receive funds

SALINAS, CA – The California Rodeo Salinas is proud to award educational scholarships to local students each year. In 2019, the California Rodeo Association will award scholarships to Esmeralda Bravo, Erendida Hernandez, Sabrina Sheffer and Crystal Villicana. Requirements to receive scholarships include:

• Attending Hartnell Junior College
• Transferring from Hartnell to a University
• Graduating seniors from a Salinas Valley high school who will be attending Hartnell in the fall may also apply
• Students must be 17 years of age or older and special consideration is given to Rodeo Committee Members as well as children or grandchildren of Rodeo Committee Members in good standing

Since 1986, over 70 students have received scholarships from the California Rodeo Association totaling over $82,000. The scholarship program is run through the Hartnell College Foundation. Recipient biographies:

Esmeralda Bravo is 18 years old, was born in Salinas and is an Alisal High School graduate. After completing two years at Hartnell Junior College she plans to attend Sacramento State University to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Erendida Hernandez is a 19 year old graduate of North Salinas High School. She plans to immerse herself in business studies at Hartnell College before transferring to a University.

Sabrina Sheffer of Salinas is 18 years old and a North Salinas High School graduate. After attending Hartnell, she plans to transfer to University of California, Berkeley to major in Molecular Environmental Biology and eventually become a physician.

Crystal Villicana of Salinas is 21 years old and a graduate of Salinas High School. She plans to apply for this year’s round of Hartnell’s and California State University Monterey Bay’s (CSUMB) bridge program for registered nursing and then obtain her Bachelor’s degree from CSUMB.
