Campbell Wins Back-To-Back Rounds en Route to Youngstown Invitational Victory

By: Easton Colvin

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Temperatures dipped below freezing outside, but Cody Campbell (Summerville, Oregon) kept the sold-out crowd hot inside the Covelli Centre with his event-winning 2-for-3 performance at the 2020 Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) Youngstown Invitational.

With two rides of 88-points, Campbell was first-place in Round 1 and Round 2. After conquering Stonewall (Barrett Bucking Stock) on Friday night, Campbell returned and put Pure Gangster (CBT 6/Barrett) on lockdown in Round 2.

The Summerville native hit the dirt early during the championship round, bucking off of Crossover (GT Bucking Bulls) in just 1.58 seconds, but Campbell’s 176-point aggregate score earned him the event win. Along with $6,500 for his efforts, 44 world points were added his season total.

Campbell is now the No. 22 ranked bull rider in the world.

Just like on night one, Bruno Scaranello sat in the second-place spot at the end the event. Another cowboy going 2-for-3, Scaranello earned back-to-back 87-point rides. Mic Drop (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) was the opponent in Round 1, and Scaranello drew Stonewall in Round 2. Stonewall tossed the Brazilian from his back in 3.4 seconds.

The Sandman (BMC Bucking Bulls/Jenkins Cattle Co.) gave Scaranello the chance to regain the second-place spot in the championship round. When the 8-second whistle sounded, Scaranello was awarded 87 points for his ride.

The second-place finish earned the Brazilian $4,400 and 26.5 world points, vaulting him within the Top 100 in the world.

Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) rounded out the Top 3 as the dust settled. After bucking off of Badger (GT Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, Alvidrez made the 8 aboard Mic Drop in Round 2, and was marked 85.5 points.

The championship round brought Cido (Rockin R Bucking Bulls) into the chutes for Alvidrez. Fighting move for move, Alvidrez earned 88 points and a share of the championship round win.

For his performance Alvidrez earned $3,000 and 17.5 world points. The young Texas native is now sitting in the No. 44 spot in the world rankings.

In a tune-up before Global Cup USA next weekend, Team Mexico rider Javier Garcia (Baja, Mexico) locked up the fourth-place spot at the event.

Garcia, another rider going 2-for-3, was able to advance to the championship round thanks to his 85-point trip aboard Smooth Cut (Golden Boys/Knapp) in Round 1.

After bucking off of Big Timber (D4 Cattle Co/Sho-Me Rodeo) in 5.99 seconds during Round 2, Garcia drew Smoke Signals (Lee/Praus/Thompson) in the championship round.

As Smoke Signals burst from the chutes, Garcia matched move for move to the tune of 88 points, splitting the round win.

The 173-point aggregate weekend gave Garcia $2,100, along with 11.83 world points.

Young gun Tyler Werner (Houston, Texas) finished with his first Top 5 of the season as he sat in fifth place.

Werner conquered his mounts in both Rounds 1 and 2, to the tune of 86 and 85 points respectively. Break The Chain (JWH Bucking Bulls/Skip & Elaine Jones) provided the firepower in Round 1, while Boomerang (Lee/Praus/Thompson) helped Werner to the 85-points in Round 2.

Although the youngster hit the ground early in the championship round after Nine Oh Seven (Barrett Bucking Stock) blew out of the chutes for a bull score of 44 points, Werner was already locked in fifth.

Werner earned 6.2 world points and $940 for the fifth-place finish.

On the bovine athlete side, Bezerk (BMC Bucking Bulls/Jenkins Cattle Co.) was the high-marked bull of the event, earning a 45-point bull score when he dispatched Bryan Titman (East Bernard, Texas) in Round 2.

The 2020 Youngstown Invitational was also a stop on the 2020 Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge.

On Friday night, Barrett Willis Bucking Stock LLC owned the performance with 275.56 points courtesy of Blonde Blizzard, Nine Oh Seven and Stonewall. Saturday night ended with a celebration for the Lee/Praus/Thompson team as it racked up 276.22 points thanks to Boomerang, Burn It Down and Smoke Signals.

Fans can experience every out from the 2020 Youngstown Invitational on Sunday, February 9 at 8 a.m. ET via RidePass.com or the RidePass app.

The PWVT returns to action in one week inside FedExForum with the 2020 Memphis Invitational at 7 p.m. CT on February 15.
