2016 World Champion Cooper Davis Wins Round 1 of PBR’s Last Cowboy Standing

LAS VEGAS –2016 World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) brought the heat to Sin City as he won Round 1 of PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Last Cowboy Standing at Helldorado Days on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Davis reached 8 seconds aboard Comets Patrol (Paige Stout Bucking Bulls) for 88.75 points. The round win awarded the Texas cowboy 125 world points and $10,000. Starting the night in the No. 11 position in the world, Davis moved up one spot to No. 10.
The 24-year-old was one of 11 cowboys to record a qualified ride in Round 1, guaranteeing them a spot in Saturday’s Round 2. With a minimum of 25 riders required to advance to Round 2, the remaining 12 draw spots will be determined by the world standings heading into Last Cowboy Standing.
2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Tres Lagoas, Brazil) finished in second place on Friday night by covering Chute Boss (Owens / Wyatt) for 87.25 points. Marchi won $3,500 and 75 world points, moving him up from No. 20 to No.17 in the world standings.
Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) finished in third place with an 86.25-point ride aboard Northern Moxie (Diamond G Rodeos, Inc.), netting $2,250 and 60 world points. Pacheco started the night at No. 5 and moved up one spot to No. 4 in the world standings.
Montana cowboy Matt Triplett (Columbia Falls Montana) took home a fourth-place finish with a wild ride as the crowd at Thomas & Mack Center erupted. Sidelined with shoulder injury most of the season, Triplett walked away from Round 1 at No. 70 in the world after riding Buckle Up (West Coast Bucking Bulls) for 86 points, earning $1,500 and 50 world points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was 2017 PBR Rookie of the Year Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil), who turned in an 85.25-point ride on Break Dance (Diamond G Rodeos, Inc.) to take home an $1,250 paycheck and 40 world points. The young gun held steady at No. 6 in the world standings.
If all riders buck off in Rounds 2, 3 or 4 then all riders who attempted a bull advance to the next round. If there is more than one ride in the final round (Round 5), then the Last Cowboy Standing will be the rider with the highest-ride score in Round 5. If there are no rides in Round 5, then the Last Cowboy Standing will be the rider with the most round points who competed in Round 5.
The best bull riders in the world will return to the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday, May 5 for Round 2 of Last Cowboy Standing until only one remains as the dust settles.
