PBR Pick ‘Em Morning Line – Iron Cowboy Round 2

By: Slade Long

This is as tough a pen of bulls as the PBR can field. As usual with recent Last Cowboy Standing and Iron Cowboy format events, Round 2 features the heavy hitters. This round is meant to pare the field down to a manageable number of riders quickly. These aren’t necessarily all the high performance bulls at this event, but they are the most difficult ones to ride. At least three riders – Ezekiel Mitchell, Joao Lucas, and Claudio Montanha – have multiple buckoffs against the bulls they have drawn here.

Cooper Davis on 93A Struttin’ Stuff:

Davis won the first round, and as a reward for that, he drew one of the hardest to ride bulls in recent PBR history. Struttin Stuff bucked Davis off back in 2017 at the beginning of this bull’s career. Four years later, Struttin’ Stuff is 69-4 in his career and 41-3 against top level pro riders. The odds are with the bull here, but Davis will be the toughest opponent Struttin’ Stuff has faced in a good while.

Cody Jesus on -400 Oz:

This is one of the most promising matchups in the round. Like the other bulls here, Oz is pretty tough to ride, even for the best riders, but he likes to go to the left, and his timing is reasonably consistent. Jesus is something of a home-run hitter on high-caliber bulls that go into his hand.

Jose Vitor Leme on -621 Zero Time:

Zero Time is a reliable producer of zero scores, but Leme is 1-0 against him. He was 89.75 points on this bull in Billings, Montana, about a year ago. He was the only rider to get a score on this bull in 2020, but three other guys have done it this year.

Lane Nobles on 623 Born to Sin:

Nobles has less experience on and has shown less proficiency against this level of bulls that most of the other riders here. He’s an underdog against every bull in this round, but this one isn’t a bad matchup for him. Born to Sin has given up three rides to right-handed riders this season in five attempts. Nobles is a native Texan who competes in Texas a lot, so he’s probably as familiar with this Texas bull as he was with the debut bull he was 86.5 points on last night.

Kaique Pacheco on 688 American Gangster:

Like Leme, Pacheco drew a tough bull that he happens to be 1-0 against. They met at the beginning of the 2020 season, and Pacheco was 90.25 points. For this pen, American Gangster is a good draw for right-handed guys.

Cody Teel on 622 High Brow Cat:

This bull looks like he should be a good draw in this group. High Brow Cat was primarily a rodeo bull who gave up a number of big scores, until he changed owners earlier this year. Since then he’s gone exclusively to UTB level events, and is unridden. He threw Jose Vitor Leme off in June. He can go either way, and he may be more complicated than he looks, but he looks like he should be a good fit for Teel.

Joao Ricardo Vieira on 604 Marquis Metal Works Coriolis Effect:

Coriolis Effect is 19-1 in his career, but Vieira is the one who rode him. He’s also bucked off of him once since then. Vieira has just three qualified rides since the UTB season resumed in Cheyenne in July, which is unlike Vieira, and it’s also unlike him to go out early at these Iron Cowboy format events.

Dalton Kasel on 507C Bentley:

This could be a relatively good draw for Kasel. This bull is 12-2 overall, but Cody Jesus was 92.5 points on him in Las Vegas back in June. Bentley went to the left there. If he has the same trip here, Kasel has a great chance at getting a second straight qualified ride here.
