PRCA for the Record: Wrangler NFR Round 10

Bareback rider Clayton Biglow holds records in four of the 10 rounds at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, and if that wasn’t enough, the California cowboy posted the highest overall score in NFR history – twice.

Typically, go-round records at the NFR are set in small increments, getting topped by a half-point at a time. But Biglow’s scores jumped.

During Round 8 of the 2018 NFR, Biglow stunned the crowd by lighting up the scoreboard with a 93-point ride on C5 Rodeo’s Virgil. Before that ride, the best bareback riding score the NFR had witnessed was 91.5 points from Will Lowe (Round 10, 2007) and Bobby Mote (Rounds 5 and 7, 2008).

The following year, Biglow proved it wasn’t a fluke when he posted a 93-point ride on Northcott Macza’s Stevie Nicks during Round 10 – winning the 2019 bareback riding world title, NFR average and RAM Top Gun Award in the process. Earning $243,891 at last year’s NFR put him at the top of the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $425,843.

At 24, Biglow’s name is synonymous with record-setting bareback riding at the NFR as he heads into his fifth consecutive Finals.

Clayton Biglow’s NFR Records
Round 5 93 points on C5 Rodeo’s Virgil, 2018 (arena record)
Round 7 91.5 points on Rafter G Rodeo’s Ankle Biter, 2019 (shared with Bobby Mote’s 2008 ride on Big Bend Rodeo’s Spring Fling)
Round 8 90 points on Frontier Rodeo’s Showstomper, 2019
Round 10 93 points on Northcott Macza’s Stevie Nicks, 2019

This year’s Wrangler NFR competitors will get a different experience with the Finals moving to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 Wrangler NFR moved to Globe Life Field due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so a different arena means NFR records in timed events likely will remain untouched this year. But the best rides and runs of the past remain a good measuring stick as the 120 best ProRodeo athletes kick up dust on a new batch of arena dirt.

Every point counts and a fraction of a second can mean the difference between winning the world or coming in second at the Wrangler NFR.

The following records, and the records for the other nine rounds, could be broken Dec. 3-12. Fans can check with ProRodeo.com for updates throughout the competition and can watch the action unfold live on the PRCA on the Cowboy Channel Plus app.
