Kyle Jones Wins Round 1 of Grand Rapids Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kyle Jones (Troy, Missouri) was in perfect form on Friday night in Michigan, collecting the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) PBR Tractor Supply Co. Classic Round 1 win.
On a night that saw just eight qualified rides as the animal athletes of the PBR showcased their talent, Jones had the Grand Rapids full house of fans cheering as he launched from the chutes aboard Off Campus (Dakota Rodeo/ Brian & Ashley Pintar/ Clay Struve/ Chad Berger) for 87 points.
For his round win, the Missouri man earned 28 Velocity Global points and heads into Saturday’s Round 2 leading the charge.
Austin Gamblers veteran Ramon de Lima (Rio Branco, Brazil) punched his ticket into Round 2 when he exploded from the chutes aboard Stairway to Heaven (C Check Bucking Bulls) to secure a second-place finish.
Not far behind Jones, the Brazilian cowboy received an 86.5-point ride score, which earned him 18 Velocity Global points.
Casey Coulter (Kirksville, Missouri) from the “show-me” state secured a third-place finish in Round 1 courtesy of an 86-point ride aboard War Path (Generations Pro Rodeo, Inc.). The ride netted him 17 Velocity Global points.
In fourth place was North Carolina cowboy Alex Jenks (Vale, North Carolina), who was paired with Gold Digger (C Check Bucking Bulls) early in the evening, delivering a resounding 85.5-point ride. Jenks earned 16 Velocity Global points for his efforts.
Rounding out the Top 5 in Grand Rapids was Canadian Griffin Smeltzer (Claresholm, Alberta, Canada) after besting his bovine opponent Sam I Am (Heald Pro Bulls / Clay Struve / Dakota Rodeo / Chad Burger) for 83.5 points. Smeltzer rolls into Saturday with 15 added Velocity Global points.
The PBR Tractor Supply Co. Classic will continue inside the Van Andel Arena as the top bull riders of the PWVT return for Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. EST.
