Fun Facts about Emily: She was the high-money earner of all barrel racers over the Fourth-of-July “Cowboy Christmas” with $26,277. The bulk of that came at the Ponoka Stampede. Canada was very good to the dental hygienist who also did well at Calgary. She was well inside the top 15 and had qualified for her fifth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo before the final weeks of the season. Then she placed third at the Washington State Fair Rodeo assuring her a spot at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the final days of the regular season. Emily earned more money than any other contestant there, $43,750 which bumped her to third in the world standings. Her money there came aboard a young mare Ivory on Fire. Emily has been preparing “Liza” for the big stage that rodeo provides and they took advantage of that winning the Tri-State Fair Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas, then Sioux Falls. She also has Chongo, Pipewrench, and Beau in her stable so she will have options and decisions in Las Vegas. Emily grew up in Kansas and was introduced to horses by her babysitter. She has always loved barrel racing but competed in all of the events in high school. Her junior year she qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo in barrel racing, goat tying, pole bending, breakaway roping, and team roping. She competed in college for Garden City Community College, then Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She now makes her home there with her husband Austin.
