Fun Facts about Taycie: For the past three years, there has been a Matthews in the top two at the College National Finals Rodeo. First it was Jaylie who finished as the reserve champion while attending East Mississippi Community College. Then in 2022, Taycie was the reserve champion. She also finished second in the WPRA Rookie of the Year race. Both girls transferred to the University of West Alabama and in 2023, Taycie emerged as the champion while riding her mother Kim’s mare Fame Fire Rocks. “PopRocks” has now become the family’s superstar after a college title, a qualification to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and being named the Nutrena Barrel Racing Horse of the Year presented by the AQHA. The girls are still competing in college rodeos where they are at the top of the Ozark Region standings. They are both business majors and are masters at juggling barrel racing, college and work. While Taycie was on the road pursuing her first NFR qualification, her family was busy at home. They raise and train horses and have a sweet potato farm. Now the whole family is making plans to spend 10 nights in Las Vegas cheering on the youngest of the team.
