World No. 2 Knox Dunn Adds Pressure on Title Race on Day 2 of 2021 UBF World Finals

By: Ted Stovin

FORT WORTH – World No. 2 Knox Dunn (Slaughter, Louisiana) kept the 2021 Ultimate Bullfighters (UBF) world title race alive and well with a round win on Friday night on Day 2 of the 2021 UBF World Finals from the historic Cowtown Coliseum at the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Dunn matched moves with Cornfed from Flatline Fighting Bulls for one of four of the evening-best 87.5-point fights and the $750 check for a split of the win in Round 2.

“It feels amazing. Just all the nerves and jitters kind of go away, and it’s just like you’ve been doing all the summer,” Dunn told Wacey Anderson of the Cowboy Sh*t podcast and UBF pre-show presented by Wrangler.

With his gear bag stolen from the hotel parking lot along with fellow bullfighter Sage Seay’s truck, adversity wasn’t only in the form of a bovine athlete.

“Getting your stuff stolen the day of the performance just kind of puts you down a little bit,” Dunn said. “But me and Dekevis Jordan, we’re kind of rooming together this week, and we got together ’cause his stuff got stolen too. And we was like, ‘Man, we’re doing the same job whether we’re wearing our stuff for someone else’s, so I’m just going out there and just rip and be 90.’”

A challenging round of bullfighting stepped up the scores and level of intensity on Day 2. High scores are what it takes to advance and become the World Champion, even if they are in the same section.

“You kind of hold your breath. You put up such a high score, and then you see somebody else doing the same thing right back at you, so you gotta step the game up,” Dunn said. “UBF bullfighters, they’re going to step it up somewhere.”

The Louisiana man made it look easy on Friday night, hardly breaking into a brisk walk, as UBF in-arena announcer Luke Kaufman said.

“I just kind of built the confidence up by hitting one little backstep by the fence,” Dunn said. “And whenever I did that, it was just putting butter on bread after that.”

Not only was Dunn 87.5, but so was Jacorey Golden (Houston, Mississippi) in the same Round 2.

The aforementioned Dekevis Jordan (Madill, Oklahoma) won Round 3 with the same 87.5-point score, as did Clay Moore (Belen, New Mexico) in Round 1 on a re-fight opportunity for $1,000 a man.

“My main concern is I need to get seated, good start with a good one, and tonight I just had fun,” Jordan said. “I didn’t really think about it. I just went and done my thing and didn’t try to be somebody I wasn’t.

“We’re travel buddies. We do everything together, no matter what it is. If he’s first and he starts out good, that just makes me like, ‘Ah, I’m going to out-do my traveling partner.’ Or if I’m first and I’ll start out good. It’s the same thing with Sage [Seay]. All three of us, we feed off each other.”

As the man with some of what may be the biggest tricks in the game right now, he’s yet to use up all his moves.

“This is just a taste. Even though it was great, that’s just a taste,” Jordan said. “I still got a whole lot of tricks in my back pocket.”

The round winners from Thursday and Friday and the next highest scores moved on for Saturday. Each round winner makes their way directly to Dec. 11’s Championship on Saturday. The remaining eight fight in Friday, Dec. 10’s Wild Card Round.
