Fun Facts about Cody: His father competed in steer wrestling in the PRCA and finished 16th two years and his mother is a barrel racer. Cody is the first to compete on rodeo’s biggest stage. His first qualification in 2021 garnered him a lot of fans as he competed with a torn pectoral muscle. That happened in the first round. He tried his best to grit it out and compete. After the fifth round, he called it quits. He had surgery and spent six months away from the arena. After intense rehab he came back late last year and finished 33rd. That got him into Houston where he won $24,500, a start to his second trip to Las Vegas where he is looking for redemption. When Cody was a senior in high school, he wrote an essay about what it means to be an American and won a scholarship from the Hunter “H.D.” Hogan Foundation. H.D. was killed in action in 2012 after choosing to join the Marines rather than go to college on a rodeo scholarship. Cody used that scholarship and then wrote an essay about H.D. and earned the Harry Vold “Duke of the Chutes” Award during the CNFR.
